Agreed Stig. Vrt could be expensive as the co figure for an auto propably puts it in the 30% rate (also unless changed which is quite possible the new min is @€750 or so a mate who brought in a mk2 gti told me). But if the new owner just wants the hard top & breaks the rest then it's a touch. Would be even better with a manual box.

Automatic transmission attracts a higher vrt, if I'm not mistaken :?

Not knocking autos satfan in fact i like em and to contradict myself you would probably pocket more for an auto box than a manual due to their relative scarcity.

Hi John. I had a broad grinn on my face when I wrote the question. I certainly took no offence to anything said.

No, but you have to stand in the corner of the room for 10 minutes and promise never to upset auto drivers again, especially the plus 6 footers from the sunny south east

Now I understand but am a bit confused. I have a Mk1 Auto, bought because it was an Auto and would not have bought a manual. I knew very little about the Mx5 before I purchased but noticed after a time that the general opinion among owners was that the Automatic Mx5 was less desirable than the manual version with lower purchase price. I do not agree with the less desirable bit but autos do appear to sell at a lesser price which is great for anyone looking for one. The one I pointed to on Donedeal looks like a good car at a good price.
" Would be even better with a manual box.". This was quoted earlier in the thread that caught my attention. The question I asked was why someone thinks an Mx5 bought with an auto box would have been better with a manual box fitted. As I said earlier, this is the general opinion I have read across the net and now have found it closer to home.
Im with Ashley. Can someone explain why the car bought for €720 would be "better" with a manual box. This is what I was referring to in my earlier question, because I do not agree.
Peter.

Because auto boxes dont connect the engine to the rear wheels in the same way so dont offer the same fun factor .
