power failure

here my mx5 keeps losen power wen im driving,id be driving along next thing the radio goes then the anti lock light comes on and charge and heat.followed by the lights dimming the car slowly loses power and stops. anyone have an idea wat it could be? i reckon it could be the altinater. i asked 1 or 2 people they reckon the same.wats your opinion? all advice welcome.cheers everyone!

Yeah, I'd also go for the altinater.

I would look at the ignition key/barrel too - a heavy bunch of keys causes big problems with Mazdas. Try wiggling the key while the engine is running (without actually going as far as switching from II to I) and see if it causes any hiccups

You getting a noise from the belt when revving the engine?? If it's not the alternator it may just be that you need a new drive-belt. Had similar problems myself before and all I needed to do was replace the belt :wink:

it ended up been the altenator it aint chargen my battery when im driving,bloody head wreaken.i got a second hand one put in and was hopen to get my old one recondisened but ur man is sayin its screwed and no point.oh and the second hand one is faulty aswell.any one no where i can get one,dat works?

theres a co. in arklow noble stephens im sure the do reconditioned altinators and take yours in exchange,they are guaranteed they also do starter motors
