IIAB Season 12 Episode 22 – Swedish Dicks, Comrade Detective, Icarus

IIAB Season 12 Episode 22 - Swedish Dicks, Comrade Detective, Icarus

This week Steve tries to battle bad broadband and loses, leaving Mark and Shona to steer the ship and try not to break anything.
Mark tells us about Swedish Dicks (it’s not what you think); these dicks are private investigators who aren’t even a mixed gender duo. And Comrade Detective makes us wonder about how you can make a tv show about bad overdubbing. For our film we look at Icarus, the Netflix documentary on doping, with a twist of testosterone injections and a side of international conspiracy. Of course the conversation takes a nose dive into what we all really want to know… how doping causes man boobs.

Season 8 Episode 6 Fresh off the Boat, The Theory of Everything, Jupiter Ascending

Jupiter Ascending is the mega sci-fi adventure of the week. It cost 170 million dollars and features Eddie Redmayne and the hottest movie stars in the galaxy. What could possibly go wrong? Mike reveals the sordid details of his off-list reality TV viewing struggles and finds an unlikely rapprochement with Shona. We have a very different Eddie (Huang) telling the story of growing up on the outside in Orlando with Fresh Off The Boat. Thrown off kilter by some eddy in the space-time continuum we go a second round with Eddie R, catching up with yet another Oscar hopeful, The Theory Of Everything, telling the story of Stephen Hawking and his efforts to explain what the hell really hard sums mean. Only joking. He gets laid too.

Season 7 Episode 1

posters07e01

We are back in the saddle with 22 Jump Street, a cerebral deconstruction of modern American cinema. Kurt Russell also makes a return in The Art Of The Steal, a getting-the-gang-back-together-for-one-last-heist extravaganza. Dominion, the TV spin-off of Legion, invites us into yet another post-apocalyptic slug-fest. This time with angels. Our last TV is Power which Mark manfully tries to present as a potential replacement for the Wire, but Mike is having none of it.

Season 6 Episode 7

robocop_poster_p_2013
Shaun gives us a word of warning about choosing a date movie carefully, and a bonus review of Philomena, starring Judi Dench as a hard done by former sinner. Top billing this week is The Lego Movie, bringing bad hair back into fashion and Batman into every boyfriend’s worst nightmares. But our pint-size stud-bound friends are not the only show in town this week; Robocop reboots in style with Michael Keaton and Samuel L finding out just what happens when a can of whup-ass is opened, and Abbie Cornish discovering that a husband with no problems getting hard is not all it’s cracked up to be. Abbie is having a big week and also stars in Klondike, the Discovery Channel epic where men are men and those not getting are getting got. After all that, we check out The After, surprisingly, nothing to do with a kiss-me-arse wedding invite from the couple who kinda hope you won’t show up, but one of a series of Amazon pilots clamouring for a full run. Is it Zombies? Is it the Rapture? All we know is that until the die is cast, the only thing you can trust is a fine bottle of wine you didn’t have to pay for.
